South Jordan residents released 225,500 ladybugs into community gardens throughout the master-panned community of Daybreak Friday during its ninth annual Ladybug Festival.

The festival is an effort to educate the community about organic gardening and the benefits of utilizing ladybugs to deter aphids that feed on plants, according to a statement from Daybreak. It also will focus on pollinators and how to attract them to gardens; Daybreak is home to an estimated 4.5 million honey bees.

The ladybugs were provided by LiveDAYBREAK, the nonprofit community council for Daybreak.
