Gov. Gary Herbert's half brother was charged Tuesday with multiple felonies for allegedly engaging in sexually related online chats with police officers who were posing as a 13-year-old girl.

Paul Gordon Peters, 56, of Draper, was charged in 4th District Court with one count of enticing a minor and three counts of sexual exploitation of a minor, all second-degree felonies; three counts of third-degree felony dealing in harmful materials to a minor by an adult; and one count of class B misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia.

On May 20, Peters chatted with the "girl" about having sex, sent her pictures of male genitals, and arranged to meet her at a specified place and time, charges state.

On May 31, when Peters showed up at the meeting place in Provo, police arrested him.

Peters was booked into the Utah County jail, where he was being held on a $25,000 cash-only bail.

The governor's office last week said in a news release, "Regardless of who is being accused, the governor believes these are horrific allegations." Peters and Herbert were "raised in different homes," the release states.
