Gov. Gary Herbert's half brother was arrested late Tuesday night on suspicion of distributing harmful materials to a minor and enticing a minor over the internet, according to police and the governor's spokesman.

The Draper man, Paul Peters, was being investigated by the Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force, according to Utah County sheriff's Sgt. Spencer Cannon.

Peters, who is in his mid-50s, was arrested after allegedly connecting with who he thought was a 13-year-old girl online and going to Provo with the intention of meeting up with her, Cannon said.

"Regardless of who is being accused, the governor believes these are horrific allegations," said Jon Cox, Herbert's spokesman, in a news release. Peters and Herbert were "raised in different homes," the release states.

Peters was booked into the Utah County Jail in the early hours of Wednesday morning and was being held on a $25,000 cash-only bail.
