Police were awaiting results of an autopsy to determine the official cause of death, but say it appears a 56-year-old man drowned in a creek behind a Riverdale shopping center Thursday morning.

A fellow transient found the body submerged in the creek, near 4043 Riverdale Road and the Weber County town's Staples store, about 8 a.m., Riverdale police Lt. Casey Warren said.

The area where the body was found is frequented by homeless campers, and the site where the body was recovered reportedly was strewn with liquor bottles.

Police did not immediately release the name of the deceased, but did confirm he was known to frequent the area.
