The Utah Highway Patrol has identified an Ogden man and woman who died in a high-speed Tuesday night rollover crash on Interstate 15 near the Weber-Davis county line.

Killed in the 7:45 p.m. accident on southbound I-15, at milepost 338, were David A. Solis, 28, and Stephanie M. Mendina-Gomez, UHP Sgt. Todd Royce confirmed.

Witnesses told troopers that it appeared Solis was driving a white 2002 model GMC Envoy at speeds exceeding 100 mph when it veered off the road to the left, went into the median, reentered the southbound lanes and then rolled multiple times.

The occupants — including a toddler — were apparently unrestrained by seat belts, and all were ejected. Mendina-Gomez died at the scene, while Solis later died at Ogden Regional Hospital. The child, about 2 years old, was reported to be in satisfactory condition at Primary Children's Hospital in Salt Lake City, having escaped with minor injuries, UHP said.

The causes of the crash — including the possibility of drug-related impairment — were being investigated.

Court records show that Solis had a past criminal record including drug- and firearms-related convictions.
