A Memorial Day fire did an estimated $125,000 in damage to a home in West Valley City, according to West Valley Fire Battalion Chief Mark Ownsbey.

Crews were called to the house, near Carnegie Tech Street and Westpoint Drive, just before 3 p.m. Monday, Ownsbey said.

The family living there was inside when they realized the back porch was on fire, Ownsbey said.

Everyone got out safely, Ownsbey said, but by the time firefighters arrived, the fire had spread to the back of the house.

The fire was under control in "five or 10 minutes," Ownsbey said. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
