A 12-year-old boy was injured Monday by a "football-size" rock near Bridal Veil Falls in Provo Canyon, said Utah County Sgt. Spencer Cannon.

The boy had a "nasty laceration" on his head and was experiencing some numbness in one of his arms, but Cannon said his injuries did not appear to be life-threatening.

Search-and-rescue crews treated the victim and began the "tedious procedure" of lowering the boy down the mountain through a series of anchoring systems, Cannon said. The process took more than two hours, he said.

Once the boy was down, he was taken by ambulance to Utah Valley Regional Medical Center, Cannon said.

He said the boy, listed in fair condition, was "alert and comfortable."
