A 17-year-old boy is in critical condition after his all-terrain vehicle collided with a truck in northern Utah Saturday afternoon, police say.

The boy, from Perry, was riding next to his father in Yost, near the Utah-Idaho border, according to Box Elder County Sgt. Steve Berry. The two were traveling east when a truck crested a hill traveling west. The boy attempted to avoid him by turning left, but the truck also veered to the right and the two vehicles hit "head on," Berry said.

The boy, who was not wearing a helmet, was transported to Ogden Regional Medical Center where he is expected to survive. Berry said the boy had "a lot" of broken bones and other injuries.

The truck's driver, from Salt Lake County and is his early 40s, did not suffer any injuries, Berry said.
