A man is dead after a road-rage-fueled shooting in West Valley City, according to police.

The man was riding a long board, heading north on 5600 West when he stopped at a traffic light at 3500 South about 1:50 p.m., according to West Valley City police Lt. Dalan Taylor. The skateboarder and two men in a pickup that was stopped near him began an argument, which escalated with the men exiting the vehicle. One of the men produced a handgun and fired a shot that killed the skateboarder, Taylor said.

Police have not identified the men involved in the altercation, but both are in custody. Investigators are trying to identify the deceased man.

All northbound lanes on 5600 West were closed between 3500 South and 4100 South until Saturday evening due to the incident, Taylor said.
