A South Carolina woman who suffered fatal injuries while riding the zip line at Sundance Mountain Resort hit into "a broken tree," Utah County officials said in a news release.

Lisa Lambe, a 55-year-old woman from Hilton Head, S.C., and her husband were riding separate lines at Sundance on May 20 at about 5:30 p.m. when the top portion of a tree, about two or three inches in diameter, struck Lambe on the right side of her body, sheriff's Sgt. Spencer Cannon said.

The tree stood about 11 feet away from the zip line, according to a news release from Sundance, but the top of the tree likely was broken off due to high winds and fell into Lambe's path. Investigators found evidence at the scene that the broken part of the tree had hit Lambe.

The woman was treated at the scene and taken to the hospital where later that night she was pronounced dead from blunt force trauma and internal injuries.

The resort said safety is "the top priority" for its zip line tour. "This includes daily, monthly, seasonal and annual inspections of all lines, foundations and equipment," according to the Sundance release.

There was no evidence of criminal responsibility in this incident, the Utah County release says.
