Memorial Day events around the state include:

Alpine — Celebration

A military Honor Guard will conduct the raising of the flag. Alpine's deceased veterans will be remembered by the playing of "Taps" and Alpine's living veterans will be honored with a medley of the military service songs. A short address will be given by a military member. Veterans are invited to wear uniforms or memorabilia that will help the city to recognize you as a veteran. Light refreshments will be served.

American Fork — Breakfast

American Fork Children's Choir will be featured on the annual Memorial Day Program at the Alpine Tabernacle.

Bluffdale — Celebration

There will be a 21-gun cannon salute and music provided by units from the Utah National Guard. A Memorial Wreath will be place at the Wall of Honor at the conclusion of the ceremony.

Cedar City — Ceremony

Cedar City will hold a Memorial Day Recognition and Veteran's Memorial Service held at the Cedar City Cemetery. The ceremony will include a Piper drum and bagpipe band, military salute, flag raising and lowering, and a short talk by an honored veteran.

Herriman City — Breakfast

Volunteers from Herriman City Staff, Unified Police Department, Unified Fire Authority and the community come together to prepare a full Chuck Wagon Breakfast for the community serving approximately 1,500.

Herriman City — Cemetery Tribute

Riverton American Legion Post 140 will honor those who have passed on with a free program of patriotic music and poetry. There will also be a reading of veteran names, a 21-gun salute and playing of "Taps."

Kaysville — Celebration

Kaysville Parks & Recreation, American Legion Post #27 and Lindquist Mortuaries welcome and will honor veterans will at their Memorial Day Celebration. This year's keynote speaker is Colonel David B. Lyons who is the Commander of the 388th Fighter Wing of Hill Air Force Base in Utah. The program will also include the Davis High drum line, Honor Guard and Rifle Team from the American Legion Farmington Post 27. Flags will be placed on Veterans' graves by American Legion and Boy Scouts of America.

Lehi — Program

Veterans will be honored at the Lehi City cemetery during a program organized by the Post 19 American Legion, Lehi City Arts, and Lehi City.

Lindon — Ceremony

Lindon will hold its annual Memorial Day Ceremony. The one-hour program includes a special message from an honored veteran, patriotic music by a Lindon Youth Choir, the reading of the role of honor, a 21-gun salute followed by the playing of Taps and the solemn placing of a traditional wreath upon the monument by an honored guest.

Mapleton City — Celebration

Mapleton City will hold its annual Flag Raising Ceremony on Memorial Day. A pancake breakfast will take place in the pavilion after the ceremony. The Maple Mountain High School Band will provide the music and retired Korean War Veteran Richard Howell will be the featured speaker. Orem — Program

Orem will hold its annual Memorial Day program at the War Memorial at Orem City Cemetery. This year's program includes two WWII veterans, two vintage airplane flyovers and musical performances.

Park City High School 5K Walk/Run

Park City High School will hold a 5K Walk/Run on Memorial Day. If you are interested in signing up as a team, email gmurphy@pcschools.us with team name and a list of team members. The race will begin at Dozier Field at the high school. Visit www.runnercard.com to register.

Provo — Service

Provo City's annual Memorial Day service will include musical numbers by the Timpview High School Band, the Pledge of Allegiance lead by Miss Provo, and the Nation Anthem performed by Timpview Madrigals Choir. There will be a Wreath-Laying Ceremony by Mayor John Curtis. The keynote speaker for the Memorial Day Service will be Michael Kipp. The program will conclude with a 21-gun salute by Metro SWAT and the "Taps" bugle call by Timpview High School Band. Active duty and veterans are encouraged to wear uniforms. In the case of inclement weather, the service will move to the Covey Center for the Arts, 425 W. Center Street.

Sandy — Program

Larkin Mortuary will honor Utah veterans with a Memorial Day program, featuring U.S. Representative Jason E Chaffetz and Lt. Col. Chanda Ian Mofu, Army ROTC BYU.

Salt Lake City — Ceremony

Beginning with an entrance march from the Fort Douglas Museum Memorial Park to the Fort Douglas Cemetery, a ceremony at the cemetery will include music, wreath laying, gun salute, taps, memorial prayer and remarks by Col. Sean Kirschner, commander of Dugway Proving Ground.

Wasatch County — Program

Wasatch County presents a Memorial Day Program to honor all veterans, past and present. There will also be a free breakfast at 7 a.m. at the Outdoor Event Center.

West Jordan — Tribute

Program highlights include remarks from U.S. Rep. Mia Love and Army Master Sgt. Gordon Ewell (author and Bronze Star, Purple Heart and Combat Action Badge recipient); music presented by the 23rd Army Band, the Utah Pipe Band, and Nathan Osmond; a 21-gun salute, and the National Guard Color Guard. This year's program also includes a special tribute to POWs/MIAs with flower placement on the memorial.

West Valley City — Rocky Mountain Raceways Military Appreciation Day

When • Monday at 6:30 a.m. registration for a 5K run, followed by a flag ceremony and program at 8 a.m. with keynote speakers Master Sergeant Julia Watson-Carlson. Breakfast after the program, $1 per person.
