A purported bomb left at by a robber at a Riverton bank Monday morning proved to be a fake.

Unified Police Lt. Lex Bell said an armed man robbed the Wells Fargo Bank, 1750 W. 12600 South, on Monday morning and left behind a small satchel. Police say he claimed was a bomb that would detonate if anyone called police.

Officers arrested the man after he exited the building, thanks to someone who called police.

Officers evacuated the bank and about 12 adjacent businesses.

The bomb squad examined the bag and found something that was fashioned to look like a bomb, but was a fake.
