A cool, wet weekend is in store for northern Utah, while the southern part of the state will have a windy Saturday, according to the National Weather Service.

Skies will be mostly cloudy Saturday along the Wasatch Front, with rain showers in some locations in the morning and a chance of thunderstorms in the afternoon, the weather service says. Breezy conditions with isolated gusts of up to 40 mph are possible in the morning.

The chance of precipitation will continue Sunday and skies will be partly cloudy, according to the weather service.

Highs in the 60s are predicted for both days, with lows mostly in the 40s.

On Saturday, a wind advisory will be in effect for the San Rafael Swell and Lake Powell areas and south-central Utah until 9 p.m. The weather service expects southwest winds of 25 to 35 mph, with gusts in excess of 50 mph, that increase during the morning and peak in the afternoon.

These winds will bring hazardous travel conditions for high-profile and lighter vehicles along all east-west roadways, including Interstate 70 and Highway 89, the weather service says.

Blowing dust will significantly restrict visibility and rough waters will develop on Lake Powell. The weather service is urging operators of small craft to postpone their outings until the wind subsides.
