Gov. Gary Herbert named two new appointments Friday to fill vacancies on the Utah Court of Appeals.

If confirmed, Herbert expects, Jill Pohlman and Judge David Mortensen to "bring the highest degrees of integrity and competence to these positions."

Mortensen has been a 4th District Court judge for 10 years and is an adjunct professor at Brigham Young University's J. Reuben Clark Law School, which is where he earned his juris doctorate. He said he is "humbled and honored" by the appointment.

Pohlman, a partner at the law firm Stoel Rives LLP, said she's grateful for Herbert's confidence.

Herbert appointed Mortensen to replace John Pearce, who was confirmed as a member of the Utah Supreme Court in December. Pohlman would take the place of Judge James Davis, who retired in November.

The appointments now go before the Utah Senate for approval.
