Three people and a dog escaped unharmed, but their two cats did not, when flames erupted from a South Salt Lake home early Friday morning.

Public safety dispatchers say a 911 call reporting fire and smoke pouring from the home, at 3430 S. 300 East, came in at 1:07 a.m.

It took firefighters from South Salt Lake and Unified Fire Authority about 20 minutes to douse the blaze.

Two of the family's three cats reportedly were found dead inside the home; the third was not immediately accounted for.

The cause of the fire, and an estimate for damages, were yet to be determined.
