A West Valley City man remained in critical condition Monday, the day after he was found at an apartment complex bleeding from a stab wound to the neck.

West Valley City police spokeswoman Roxeanne Vainuku said officers responding to a 7 a.m. Sunday 911 call found the 43-year-old victim near the entryway to one of the buildings at the Aspen Village Apartments, 3051 W 3500 South.

Police did not release the victim's name, but did confirm he was a resident of the apartment complex.

"Investigators discovered a blood trail leading from outside one apartment building to the location where the victim was found," Vainuku said. "Residents of the apartment had heard a fight in the early morning hours outside the building where the blood trail began. They reported seeing a dark-colored SUV leave the area."

A suspect or suspects remained at large, and no motive for the attack had developed as of Monday morning.

As for the victim, while he remained in critical condition at an unidentified hospital, his vital signs had stabilized, Vainuku said.

Anyone with information on this case is asked to call WVCPD at 801-840-4000.
