A 33-year-old Salt Lake City man was charged Friday with first-degree felony attempted murder for a brutal hammer attack on his girlfriend earlier this month.

Earon William Edward Lisenbee also was charged in 3rd District Court with first-degree felony aggravated kidnapping, second-degree felony mayhem, and misdemeanor counts of assault against a police officer and assault.

The attack initially left the 43-year-old woman in critical condition.

But Salt Lake City police Detective Dennis McGowan said Friday that after more than one surgery, she was out of the hospital and "doing well under the circumstances."

Charges state that the victim suffered multiple facial fractures, multiple missing teeth, a closed head injury, a broken finger, a fracture to her hand and lacerations and abrasions.

Police officers searching the scene found a blood-covered hammer and seven human teeth, charges state.

The woman told police that on the afternoon of April 14, she and Lisenbee got into an argument and he struck her several times in the face with his fist, knocking her to the floor of a home at 555 S. 900 East, charges state.

During a second attack, Lisenbee hit her in the face until she lost consciousness, she told police, adding that she recalled Lisenbee hitting her with some kind of metal object.

She also recalled him telling her something like, "I will kill you" during the assault.

Police were alerted to the attack by a 911 call from Lisenbee's mother, who had gotten a call from him in which he said he had hit his girlfriend in the face with a hammer and was going to bury her in the backyard, charges state. Lisenbee's mother also told dispatchers that during the call, the sound of a woman moaning could be heard in the background.

When police arrived and got no response from inside the home, they forced their way in and found Lisenbee and the woman on the floor.

Lisenbee fought with officers and one of them suffered an injury to his knee, charges state.

Lisenbee was booked into the Salt Lake County jail, where he remained Friday with bail set at $500,000, cash-only.

Utah court records show Lisenbee has prior convictions for assaults, drug use and drug distribution offenses.
