A 39-year-old Lehi man who pleaded guilty to 14 felonies in connection with surreptitiously taking video or photos of young boys urinating in public restrooms was sentenced to prison Thursday for up to 30 years.

Jeffrey Aaron Young pleaded guilty last month in 4th District Court to 12 counts of voyeurism by electronic equipment, concealed or disguised; and one count each of attempted sexual exploitation and obstruction of justice.

All 14 counts are third-degree felonies, each punishable by up to five years in prison.

Judge James Taylor ordered the 14 convictions to run consecutively to one another. State law caps the upper limit for consecutive third- and second-degree felonies at 30 years behind bars.

The judge also ordered Young to pay a $133,602 fine.

In court documents, Young admitted recording images of at least a dozen boys under the age of 14 while they were using restroom facilities, including at an LDS Church and the Legacy Center recreation center in Lehi.

Images taken as early as 2012 were found on an electronic storage device in Young's home, court documents state.

Young also admitted destroying his cell phone with a wrench, putting the pieces in a plastic bag and filling the bag with water before tossing it in a trash bin, to which he later led police.

Defense attorney Susanne Gustin, noting that pre-sentence investigators had recommended Young serve 120 days in jail, argued against prison time, pointing out to the judge that her client had no prior criminal record and a supportive family.

Young expressed remorse and told the judge he recognized that he needed help and wanted to get help, according to Gustin.

Lehi police began investigating voyeurism reports in November, when a young boy reported seeing a camera placed under the bathroom stall at an LDS Church at 3200 North 600 East.

Then in December, members of the church gave matching descriptions of a man behaving oddly in the bathroom, police have said. He was seen leaving the bathroom as a group of boys was entering, and then immediately following them back into the bathroom. Later he was seen sitting on a toilet in a bathroom stall with his pants up, police have said.

Members of the church recognized the man as Young, a member of a neighboring LDS congregation, police have said.

Young was arrested on Jan. 13.
