The Utah Transit Authority is proposing changes to create a one-seat bus ride, without a transfer, along the entire east-west lengths of 3300/3500 South and 3900/4100 South in Salt Lake County.

The agency has scheduled a public hearing to discuss the proposal May 9 at 4:30 p.m. at West Valley City Hall, 3600 S. Constitution Boulevard.

Currently, the Route 33 bus operates on 3300 South east of the Millcreek TRAX Station, and the Route 35 operates west of that station on 3300/3500 South. To go the full length of the road, passengers now would need to transfer at that TRAX station.

UTA is proposing to have the same buses run the entire east-west length of the road, but switch their route designation at a midpoint.

The buses would have a Route 35 designation from Magna to the West Valley Central TRAX station, and then switch to a Route 33 designation from there eastward to Wasatch Boulevard.

It is proposing a similar change on 3900/4100 South with Routes 39 and 41.

Buses on that road would carry the Route 41 designation west of the Meadowbrook TRAX station, and switch to a Route 39 designation east of it. UTA also is proposing that Route 39 no longer serve UTA's Meadowbrook bus garage.

UTA said modifications would provide cost savings that it would like to use to add extra service on Sundays on routes 33 and 35.

It said frequency on those routes would be increased to every 30 minutes, instead of every hour.

Also, service would begin two hours earlier on Sundays — at 7 a.m. instead of 9 a.m. — and run until 7 p.m.

UTA is proposing to make the changes in August.

UTA is also accepting written or email comments on the proposal.
