Every now and then, a Unified Police officer ends up delivering a baby.

Early Tuesday morning, though, Officer Travis Clark found himself welcoming his own baby daughter into the world — in the back seat of his UPD cruiser.

UPD Lt. Lex Bell said the 6-pound, 7-ounce, 18.5-inch infant, first name "Bexleigh," arrived at 3:28 a.m. near the Salt Lake County-Utah County line.

Bell said the drama began about 3 a.m. at Clark's home, when the mother, Paige Clark, began to go into labor. Things proceeded more rapidly than expected, so he loaded her into his patrol car, intent on getting to Intermountain Healthcare's Riverton hospital.

"As he was driving north on Redwood Road near 2100 North, in Saratoga Springs, his wife informed him she was having the baby," Bell said. "[He] pulled his patrol car to the side of the road and delivered his daughter."

Paramedics arrived shortly thereafter and transported the new mother and child to the hospital, where both were reported doing well, surrounded by family.
