A South Salt Lake street has reopened after police blocked it off to negotiate with a man who would not come out of his house.

At about 1:20 p.m. Friday, the man's relative called dispatchers to report that the 31-year-old man had reportedly overdosed, said police spokesman Gary Keller. At some point later, the relative thought he heard a gunshot from the home, near 2900 South 300 East, Keller said.

Police blocked off 300 East from Cordelia Avenue (2890 South) to Gregson Avenue (2030 South) while a SWAT team negotiated with the man. Later in the afternoon, the team went into the home and brought the man out safely, Keller said.

The man was checked at the scene and was reportedly "safe and well," Keller added.
