Unified Police have identified a motorcyclist killed Thursday as 31-year-old Rion Phillips.

UPD Chief Deputy Justin Hoyal said Phillips, of Cottonwood Heights, was riding east on Fort Union Boulevard at 8:46 p.m. when the driver of a sedan made a left turn to go west.

Police say witnesses reported that Phillips possibly was speeding and thus unable to avoid colliding with the car. He suffered extensive injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene, Hoyal said.

The 48-year-old woman driving the sedan was not seriously injured.
