A 21-year-old man was in critical condition Wednesday, the day after he was repeatedly stabbed in the courtyard of a South Salt Lake apartment complex.

South Salt Lake police spokesman Gary Keller said officers were dispatched to the Mission Meadowbrook Apartments, 3810 S. 875 West, about 9 p.m. Tuesday, after a 911 call reporting an injured man was shouting for help.

Officers and paramedics discovered the victim, still conscious, with multiple stab wounds to his torso. He was rushed by ambulance to Intermountain Medical Center in Murray.

Keller said the man, whose identity was not released, is believed to have recently lived in the complex, but had not been a resident recently.

No suspect or motive for the attack was immediately known; the victim told police he did not recognize his attacker.
