A Summit County judge has dismissed the criminal charges against Olympian gold-medal skier Picabo Street alleging she assaulted her father.
Street, 44, was charged last December with assault and three counts of domestic violence in the presence of a child, all misdemeanors. On Monday, Summit County Justice Court Judge Shauna L. Kerr granted the prosecutors' request to drop the charges.
Street was accused of throwing her 76-year-old father down stairs and locking him in a basement during a fight at her home near Park City.
In a motion filed Thursday, Deputy Summit County Attorney Ivy Telles said "this case would be more appropriately handled in a civil or administrative forum by Utah's Adult and Aging Services Division."
The 44-year-old Street called police on Dec. 23, saying she "had got into a fight" with her father, according to a probable-cause statement filed with the Summit County Jail.
Street told 911 dispatchers that she "put" her father, Roland Street, down the stairs after he pulled her hair and scratched her face, according to a recording of the call. Her mother can be heard in the background, disputing that version of what happened.
Prosecutors said an investigation found Picabo Street was the primary aggressor; Roland Street was not charged in the fight.
Street's defense attorney has said the Olympian was defending herself and that she would not strike a plea deal.
Picabo Street won a gold medal at the 1998 Winter Olympics in the women's super-G event. She also won silver in the downhill at the 1994 Olympics in Lillehammer, Norway, and competed in the 2002 Winter Games in Salt Lake City.
