A 57-year-old bicyclist suffered extensive injuries Thursday morning when he was hit by a mini-van in West Haven.

Weber County Sheriff's Sgt. Troy Windsor said the accident occurred about 6:50 a.m. when the mini-van, driven by a woman in her mid- to late-20s, apparently struck the Roy man as he attempted to cross the area of 1900 South and 1550 South in pre-dawn darkness.

The victim, not believed to have been wearing a helmet, was listed in critical condition when transported to McKay-Dee Hospital in Ogden.

The accident remained under investigation, but deputies did not report any initial indications of impairment on the driver's part.

Indeed, Windsor said it appeared that the bicyclist — hit as he entered a lane against the flow of traffic — "was not where he should have been."
