The Salt Lake City Police Department is giving away anti-theft devices to residents driving commonly stolen cars.

The department — in partnership with the National Insurance Crime Bureau — plans to give away 200 Club steering wheel locks to applicants.

To qualify for the free anti-theft devices, recipients must live in Salt Lake City and drive a Honda vehicle up to 2002, Subaru vehicle up to 2004 or a Nissan up to 2002.

"Detectives are reporting that some vehicles have been stolen on more than one occasion," a press release from the police department reads.

To apply for the program, send an email to autotheft@slcgov.com, including your name, address and license plate number in the subject line. Detective will review the applications and distribute the anti-theft devices.

Police authorities say that if the program is successful, it may be expanded to include other vehicle makes and models.
