A Weber County man was hospitalized Friday after being struck by a school bus.

The accident happened about 5:45 a.m. near the intersection of 12th Street and Harrison Boulevard, Ogden police said in a news release.

Investigators believe the 26-year-old man was crossing Canyon Road, just east of the intersection. He was hit as the bus made a left turn from Harrison onto Canyon.

It is not clear whether the pedestrian was in a crosswalk, police said.

There were no passengers on the Weber County School District at the time of the accident.

The man, whose name was not released, was treated at the scene for injuries and taken to an Ogden-area hospital. He was listed in serious condition Friday morning with injuries to his head and shoulder.

A preliminary investigation suggests the pedestrian may have been drinking alcohol before the accident, police said.

The 69-year-old bus driver is cooperating with investigators. Alcohol does not appear to be a factor with the driver, police said.

No citations were immediately issued.
