The Salt Lake City Human Rights Commission is inviting the public to a "listening session" Wednesday evening surrounding the officer-involved shooting of a 17-year-old near The Road Home shelter, 220 S. Rio Grande St.

The public is invited to speak to the commission from 7-9 p.m. at the Marmalade Branch of the Salt Lake City Library, 280 W. 500 North.

Abdullahi Omar Mohamed was shot Saturday evening by Salt Lake City police officers. According to police, Mohamed and another person were attempting to assault a third person. The alleged assailants were carrying what has been described as metal broom handles.

Officers ordered the young men to drop their weapons. When Mohamed did not, he was shot, according to police.

The young man remains in the hospital. No one else was seriously injured.
