The Utah Highway Patrol confirmed that a man was struck and killed as he stepped into traffic on northbound Interstate 215 near Parleys Canyon late Thursday morning.

Troopers identified the deceased as Timothy Spicer, 42, of Salt Lake City. He had parked his pickup truck on the shoulder near 3000 South.

About 9:45 a.m., when a northbound construction dump truck was close, Spicer "exited the pickup and ran into the roadway, directly in front of the dump truck," according to a UHP news release. He was struck and died instantly.

The incident led to closure of all of the freeway's northbound lanes between 3900 South and 4500 South for several hours, UHP said.

On Wednesday afternoon, a 39-year-old Salem woman also was struck and killed by a semi when she darted from a car that had pulled over onto the shoulder of Interstate 15 near Nephi.

She, too, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Hopper said troopers had no initial indication that the two incidents were connected.
