An Ogden woman was in critical but improving condition Tuesday, the day after she was ejected from her speeding SUV as it crashed and rolled on Interstate 15 near Riverdale.

Utah Highway Patrol Sgt. Todd Royce reported that the 29-year-old woman, driving at a high rate of speed, entered northbound I-15 from the Interstate 84 on-ramp at 1:12 p.m. Monday. Losing control, she then drove across all northbound lanes to strike a concrete barrier wall.

The woman, who was not wearing a seat belt, was ejected, propelled over the wall, and landed on the inside southbound lane of the freeway, UHP said.

Royce said that while she was listed in critical condition, doctors expected her to survive extensive injuries.

The crash closed down some lanes in both directions for about two hours.

The cause of the accident was under investigation. Troopers were looking into whether the woman may have been under the influence of drugs or alcohol and possibly texting at the time of the accident.
