A Utah Highway Patrol trooper was seriously injured when his parked cruiser was hit by another vehicle on Interstate 15 near Springville.

UHP Sgt. Todd Royce said the accident occurred at 8:13 a.m. Thursday, on the northbound side of the freeway, near mile post 258. A vehicle went out of control in the icy, foggy conditions, hit a concrete barrier wall and then slid into the back of the UHP cruiser.

It was the fourth such crash involving a UHP vehicle in the past two weeks.

Trooper Blake Bradford was conscious and talking, but in pain from neck, back and arm injuries when transported by ambulance. He was later listed in serious condition at Utah Valley Regional Medical Center in Provo.

Two women in the vehicle that struck the cruiser — which had just made a traffic stop on the right shoulder — were treated at the scene for minor injuries and released, Royce said.

The collision forced the cruiser into the back of the car Bradford had originally pulled over, but no other injuries were reported.

Royce said UHP said the crash closed down two northbound lanes on I-15 near the exit onto U.S. 6 for nearly an hour.

The Spanish Fork Police Department is investigating the incident since UHP was involved.
