Provo Canyon reopened Tuesday afternoon after a semi-truck carrying fertilizer rolled over and forced officers to bar traffic into the canyon.

About 1:10 p.m., the semi crashed on U.S. Highway 189, about a mile and a half from the western end of the canyon, said Utah Highway Patrol Sgt. Todd Royce.

The semi was carrying ammonium sulfate. It was in a granular form, "so it'd be similar to what you put on your lawn," Royce added.

The driver of the semi did not suffer serious injuries, Royce said.

The cause of the crash is under investigation.

The crash forced officers to temporarily shut down the canyon in both directions. The canyon reopened about 5 p.m.
