A 31-year-old man was upgraded to good condition on Monday, as West Valley City police continued trying to learn who shot him over the weekend, and why.

WVCPD spokeswoman Roxeanne Vainuku said investigators had released nothing more beyond that they suspected the man had been shot once in the back near a smoke shop at 4600 South and 4000 West, where he staggered in for help about 5:25 p.m. Saturday.

He had been conscious for a short time, saying only that he had been shot.

He initially was in serious condition when rushed to the hospital.

"At this time we have not identified a motive for this shooting or any suspect information," Vainuku said later Monday. "Investigators are continuing to attempt to develop leads."
