Riverdale police confirmed Monday they are investigating a homicide stemming from a weekend domestic dispute.

Police said a 911 call came in at 10:52 p.m. Sunday from a man who stated he had shot his knife-wielding girlfriend. He claimed the shooting was in self-defense.

Officers arrived to find the 30-year-old woman inside a home near 1100 West and 4400 South, dead from what appeared to be multiple gunshot wounds.

As of late Monday morning, no arrests had been made. Police said interviews were in progress and the investigation was just beginning.

The identities of the deceased and the man were not immediately released pending notification of the victim's family.
