The National Weather Service is predicting that many locations in northern Utah will reach above-freezing highs on the weekend.

The thermometer along the Wasatch Front is expected to reach the upper 30s to about 40 on Saturday. The Logan and Park City areas could be the exceptions, with the temperature topping out at about 30.

Skies will be partly cloudy on Saturday in northern Utah. Overnight lows will range from the 20s in Salt Lake City and Provo, near 15 in Logan and 10 to 15 in Park City, according to the weather service.

Highs on Sunday are expected to be in the 30s to about 40 and lows in the 20s to near 10.

Expected highs in St. George are the upper 50s on Saturday and about 60 on Sunday, with lows in the low to mid 30s.

The Utah Avalanche Center says the danger of backcountry snowslides on Saturday is "considerable" in the Skyline, Moab and Abajo area mountains. The danger of backcountry avalanches in the rest of the state is "moderate."

These advisories — which are updated daily at utahavalanchecenter.org — do not apply to ski areas where avalanche hazard reduction measures are performed.
