Acting on a tip, Unified Police officers raided a Sandy home late Wednesday to arrest a wanted federal fugitive — and got far more.

Not only did they get 30-year-old Delbert Wayne Auger, a purported white supremacist gang member wanted for possession of a firearm by a restricted person, but also broke up an alleged check fraud ring, in the process making five additional arrests of suspects wanted for parole violations and other crimes.

UPD Lt. Lex Bell said officers surrounded the home — a rundown house with a history of criminal and drug activity at 1068 E. Sego Lily Drive, in Sandy's White City neighborhood — and kept it under surveillance for several hours Wednesday afternoon. Checks of vehicles parked in the home's driveway reportedly showed one had been stolen, and the other was registered to Auger.

Police, now bolstered by agents of the Salt Lake City Violent Crimes Task Force, subsequently stopped two other vehicles leaving the residence. First, they arrested a man and woman, both wanted on felony drug and document fraud counts, and then later stopped another car containing three more suspects, two men and a woman, all wanted on a variety of drug, fraud and theft allegations.

About 7 p.m., officers moved in and allegedly found Auger in an outbuilding containing check-making equipment, including printers and laptop computers and check stock. Police also recovered a counterfeit $50 bill, Bell said.

Auger, who also goes by the names "Greg Smith" and "Auggie Moniker," has a long criminal record ranging from burglary and drug-related violations to credit card and identity fraud and numerous child support liens. An alleged member of the "Silent Aryan Warriors" gang, he was being held without bail at the Salt Lake County Jail on Thursday.

Police continued Thursday to gather evidence at the scene and investigate the possibility of additional criminal activity.

The Salt Lake County Health Department also has banned the house from future occupancy due to its dilapidated condition, positive test for methamphetamine, and discovery of used syringes throughout the residence.
