Metro Gang Unit officers had to use a Taser to subdue a machete-swinging identity fraud fugitive in northwest Salt Lake City.

Salt Lake City police Detective Veronica Montoya said the 40-year-old man, wanted on a felony arrest warrant for document fraud, as well as theft and vehicle burglary charges, was at his mother's home about 7:45 p.m. Tuesday, near 1700 West and 1000 North, when officers knocked on the door.

As the mother answered, detectives saw their fugitive, armed with the machete, flee into a bathroom. When officers approached, he allegedly began swinging the weapon at them, telling them they would have to kill him.

They did not, instead deploying a Taser to shock the man into submission.

He was booked into the Salt Lake County jail on the warrant, as well as suspicion of possession methamphetamine and aggravated assault on law officers.

None of the officers were hurt during the confrontation.
