After a fruitless day of searching for a missing skier, Summit County rescuers will continue looking for the man Tuesday morning.

Stephen Jones, 50, left Sunday morning to ski near Canyons Ski Resort, but he did not return home by 9 p.m. The Summit County Sheriff's Office found the Wanship man's vehicle in the Canyons Village parking lot, but not Jones.

Searchers from Summit County and the Canyons ski patrol have searched the resort and the backcountry, with no luck, according to a sheriff's office news release. By Monday evening, the search had been called off; it will resume Tuesday morning.

Jones, an experienced skier in "extremely good physical condition," is "very familiar with the terrain and the area" and took provisions and appropriate clothing with him, according to the release. Jones took a rescue beacon with him, but searchers do not know whether it's still with him.
