Summit County sheriff's officers were searching the Oakley area for two burglary suspects who were surprised by a homeowner on Monday morning.

At about 8 a.m. Monday, a home owner reported that the male suspects had just left after burglarizing a Weber Canyon residence.

Sheriff's deputies responded and began immediately searching for the suspects, who had not been found as of about 11;30 a.m., the sheriff's office reported.

The initial investigation showed that the suspects entered the home through an unlocked door.

The owner was home at the time and "it is believed the homeowner may have spooked the individuals, who believed no one was in the residence," according to a news release.

It was not known if the suspects fled on foot or in a vehicle.

A Code Red — shelter in place — was issued by telephone to Oakley residents, alerting them of an active situation and asking them to contact the sheriff's office of any suspicious individuals or circumstances.
