A Murray woman who attacked her mother with a knife last year has been sentenced to prison for up to 20 years.
Dianna Sue Robles, 30, was initially charged in 3rd District Court with first-degree felony attempted murder, second-degree felony assault against a police officer, third-degree felony aggravated assault, and misdemeanor counts of burglary of a vehicle and criminal mischief.
Robles pleaded guilty last week to a reduced second-degree felony count of aggravated assault with serious bodily injury, a reduced third-degree felony count of assaulting a police officer and third-degree felony aggravated assault. As part of a plea deal the misdemeanors were dismissed.
Robles was sentenced the same day by Judge Todd Shaughnessy to two to 20 years at the Utah State Prison.
On Oct. 4, Robles' mother noticed that her daughter was acting "very strangely," according to charging documents.
Sometime later, Robles told her mother, "You're not my mom. You're the devil," and stabbed her mother with a knife, shouting "I am going to kill you," charges state.
Among her injuries, Robles' mother suffered a punctured lung, a nicked aortic sack and a stab wound to her neck that nearly hit an artery, charges state.
The older woman was able to run back into her home, in the area of 3300 South and Westcrest Road (4250 West), in Murray, when Robles' attention turned to a neighbor, whom she attacked with a cooking pot lid, the charges state.
When a police officer arrived, Robles was sitting in a car and came out holding a long pipe "in a threatening manner," according to the charges. When she refused to drop the pipe, the officer brandished his firearm and deployed pepper spray. When Robles kept approaching the officer with the pipe, "in an aggressive manner," the officer used his Taser, subdued her and took her into custody, the charges state .
