Crashes claimed the lives of two people in northern Utah on Friday and Saturday.

On Saturday, John Eggleston, 23, died after a rollover north of Brigham City, the Utah Highway Patrol said.

Eggleston, of Honeyville, was driving his car north on State Road 38 at about 1:25 a.m. when the vehicle ran off the right side of the road and up the embankment, according to a UHP report.

The car rolled and ejected Eggleston, who was not wearing a seat belt, the report says.

Eggleston, who was the only occupant of the car, was taken to a hospital, where he died from his injuries.

The night before, a Salt Lake City man died after he was hit by an SUV. Police ha not released his identity.

The 57-year-old man was crossing 500 East from west to east at about 830 South, not in a crosswalk, said Salt Lake City police Lt. John Beener.

In the rain, a southbound vehicle nearly hit him; when the man crossed in the northbound lanes, a northbound SUV "didn't see him, or didn't see him in time to be able not to hit him," Beener said.

The SUV hit the man about 6:15 p.m. The man was taken to the hospital where he died later, according to police.

Police believe the heavy rain hindered the driver's ability to see the man.
