A man remained in critical condition while a boy had been upgraded to serious on Wednesday, the day after they were injured in a two-car collision in Sandy.

Sandy police Sgt. Dean Carriger said the accident occurred about 8:40 p.m. Tuesday when a Lexus, northbound on 700 East, went out of control and spun into the southbound lanes, colliding with a Honda Accord.

The driver of the Lexus, a 25-year-old Sandy man, was taken to Intermountain Medical Center in Murray, where he remained in critical condition on Wednesday.

The 49-year-old male driver of the Honda was treated for minor injuries at IMC, but his 10-year-old son, initially in critical condition, was listed as serious after being stabilized, Carriger said.

The cause of the crash remained under investigation, but Carriger said that excessive speed was believed a factor, at least in the severity of the accident.

It was not immediately known if drugs or alcohol also were factors.
