The Navy will name a new submarine — to be delivered in 2022 — the USS Utah. A ceremony was held at the Utah Capitol Tuesday in honor of the naming, attended by Gov. Gary Herbert, Secretary of the Navy Ray Mabus and others. The West Jordan High School madrigals provided music. Virginia-class nuclear-powered submarines are typically named after U.S. states. The Navy had been waiting to name a sub whose registry number is 801, which also happens to be the telephone area code for much of Utah.
