Investigators continued Monday to look into the specific cause of a two-alarm weekend fire at downtown Salt Lake City's Rodeway Inn.

Salt Lake City Fire Department spokesman Jasen Asay said the 2:41 p.m. Sunday blaze, at 616 S. 200 West, began inside a third-floor room. When firefighters arrived, they had to rescue the room's male occupant, who had fled to the room's window ledge, using a ladder.

The fire was contained to the room, though smoke and water damage were reported on all three floors by the time the scene was secured. In all, damages exceeded $30,000, officials said.

Asay said the building was briefly evacuated, and guests were allowed back into the hotel later Sunday afternoon, after smoke was vented from the structure.

No injuries were reported.
