A 17-year-old boy remained in serious condition Tuesday with leg injuries suffered in a Layton auto-pedestrian accident that killed his female teenage companion.

Layton police reported that Eric Baarz's condition was unchanged from when he was rushed to McKay-Dee Hospital on Monday morning, after being struck by a northbound pickup truck in a crosswalk at 199 N. Fort Lane.

That same incident claimed the life of 17-year-old BaiLee DiBernardo, who attended Layton High School with Baarz.

Both teens were hit by the pickup, but DiBernardo was struck a second time by a vehicle just behind the truck.

The incident remained under investigation Tuesday. Police said they would screen any potential charges with the city attorney once their probe is completed.

However, police said no charges were anticipated in another fatal auto-pedestrian accident in Layton earlier Monday. Adam Brimhall, 42, was not in a crosswalk when he attempted to cross a dark street at 2080 N Main Street and was struck and killed, police said.
