St. George • A Utah National Guardsman has been presented with the Utah Cross medal for bravery for saving a teen in a traffic accident.

Sgt. Austin Miller was recognized during a ceremony at St. George Armory on Sunday. The Cedar City resident was helping with flood search-and-recovery operations in southern Utah on Sept. 17 when he saw a truck run off the road.

Miller rushed to help a 14-year-old boy who was unconscious and choking on his own blood. The guardsman was able to save the teen's life by clearing his airway and staying with him until paramedics arrived.

Miller said it was an honor to be recognized by the state but that he was just doing his job.
