Ogden • A former tenant of an Ogden hotel that provides government-subsidized housing has filed a lawsuit saying he was discriminated against because he is black.

The Standard-Examiner reports that 53-year-old David Webb filed a civil rights lawsuit on Jan. 6 in U.S. District Court in Salt Lake City against Kier Property Management & Real Estate, which owns the Sean Herrick Apartments.

Webb seeks $500,000 in damages and an injunctive order against further discrimination.

According to the claim, a volunteer employee of the apartments threatened to beat him with a stick Dec. 21 as he tried to go to the first floor shower. Webb says the man called him "boy," which he took as a racial slur.

Kier executives did not respond to requests for comment.
