No more Beans and Brews java for you, Mr. Alleged Armed Robber.

Sandy police Sgt. Dean Carriger confirmed Friday that not only is the 45-year-old suspect from Monday's holdup at the coffee shop now getting his caffeine from the Salt Lake County jail kitchen — but it turns out he was a fugitive sought on an active felony arrest warrant out of Maryland.

Detectives say the gunman walked into the business, at 45 E. 11400 South, about 11 a.m. Monday. He approached the counter, ordered a coffee, and then revealed a handgun tucked in his waistband. He demanded and received an undisclosed amount of money, leaving the shop on foot.

Carriger said investigators, acting on a tip from an acquaintance, asked Unified Police to arrest the suspect when he was spotted near St. Mark's Hospital on Wednesday. They did, then turned him over to Sandy detectives.

The suspect also matched the description of a 6-foot black male who robbed a 7-Eleven store earlier last Monday in South Salt Lake, Carriger said.

He was booked into jail on suspicion of two first-degree felony counts of aggravated robbery, second-degree felony possession of a firearm by a restricted person, and second-degree felony theft.
