Frustrated when a Midvale sandwich shop employee initially refused to hand over the cash, an armed robber pulled out a handgun, racked the slide — and gave police evidence that could lead to his arrest.

Unified Police Lt. Lex Bell said the suspect's black and silver semi-automatic already had a round in the chamber, so racking the weapon — while certainly dramatic — also left behind a bullet.

"We [detectives] will definitely be checking that bullet for prints," Bell said.

The robbery took place at 7:32 p.m. Wednesday at the Moochie's Meatballs and More, 7725 S. State St.

The suspect eventually got his cash and fled the store, where he was seen jumping into a 2005-2010 model black or dark-colored four-door Honda Accord. The car also was distinctive, having LED tail lights, Bell said.

The same suspect — A Latino in his 20s with a hooded sweatshirt, the hood tightly cinched to his head — also is being investigated in connection with a holdup at a taco shop nearby last week.
