A 34-year-old Cedar City man was arrested for allegedly stabbing another man multiple times, as well as causing less serious injuries to two other men who tried to break up a New Year's Eve fight.

Cedar City police Sgt. Jimmy Roden said the incident occurred about 8:30 p.m. Thursday at the Valu Inn, 344 S. Main Street. Officers responding to a 911 call found the male victim bleeding and he was rushed to the Cedar City Hospital, where he remained in serious condition on Friday.

Witnesses told officers the suspect had run from the scene, and police located and arrested him moments later in a nearby parking lot.

The two men who attempted to stop the assault sustained minor injuries and did not require treatment, Roden said.

The cause of the altercation remained under investigation, but alcohol was believed a factor.

The suspect was booked into the Iron County jail on suspicion of second-degree felony aggravated assault.
